The purpose of this guide is to help you get started with the basics as soon as you receive the "Welcome" email from us, confirming that your Reseller hosting account has been activated. There is more specific information in our FAQ section, or you can contact us if you have any questions.
1. Setting you up
2. Logging on to your Helm Control Panel
3. Changing your Helm Control Panel password
4. Changing your FTP user password
5. Creating an email address
6. Uploading your web pages
1. Changing your Name Servers :
The first thing you should do after receiving your "Welcome" email is change your Name Servers so that your domain name points to our servers. It takes anywhere from 24 to 72 hours for these changes to propagate throughout the Internet so the sooner you change it, the sooner your web site will be accessible through your domain name..
2. Logging on to your Helm Control Panel :
While you wait for your Name Server changes to propagate you can start creating email accounts, change your default password, etc. through your Helm Control Panel which can be accessed via the Control Panel link on our web site. Your control panel's Username and Password was included in the "Welcome" email we sent to you after your account was created.
3. Changing your Helm Control Panel password :
Initially your password is randomly generated and included in the "Welcome" email that is sent to you when we create your account. It is a good idea to change the password to something more familiar.
-
From your control panel's home page, click the Password link.
-
Enter your old password, your new password, and then re-enter your new password in the space provided. Click Save to update the password.
4. Changing your FTP user password :
By default, your FTP password is the same your Control Panel password. You can choose to use a different password as the one you use for your Control Panel (recommended), or you can make your FTP password the same as your Control Panel password.
-
From your control panel's home page, click the Domains link.
-
Click on the Domain Name in the list of domains.
-
On the Domain Menu page, click the FTP Accounts link.
-
Click on the FTP Username you want to update.
-
Enter the new password, confirm the new password, and click Save to update the password. TIP : While you are here, make a note of the FTP Server IP for your domain. You can use this IP address to upload web pages and content via FTP before your Name Server changes have propagated throughout the Internet.
5. Creating an email address :
When we create your account, we create one default email address account called "mail". You will probably want to add some email addresses of your own.
-
From your control panel's home page, click the Domains link.
-
Click on the Domain Name in the list of domains.
-
On the Domain Menu page, click the Email Accounts (POP3) link.
-
You will now see a list of Email Accounts for this domain. By default a "mail" POP3 account was created when we created your web hosting account. Click the Add New button to add another email account.
-
Type the first part of the Email Address (e.g. "webmaster") into the Email Address field. The last part (e.g. "@demodomain.com") is not necessary. Enter a Password for this email account, and confirm the Password in the spaces provided. Click Save to create the email account.
-
You will be returned to the list of email addresses from where you can click Add New to add another email address up to the limit allowed by your hosting plan.
6. Uploading your web pages :
At this time, you may want to start uploading your web pages and images. To do that, you can use FTP (File Transfer Protocol). There are several free FTP programs available. One of the most popular is WS_FTP LE. Regardless of which FTP program you use, the basics are the same. To logon to your FTP account, you will need :
-
FTP Server IP : This can be obtained on the same screen where you change the FTP password.
-
FTP Username : Normally the same as your domain name, e.g. test.com.
-
FTP Password : Whatever you changed it to previously. By default, it’s the same as your control panel password.
-
Note : Please refer to the manufacturer of the FTP program you use for details on how to use their products to upload and download files.
